All tires are not the same; however, all tires have specific markings that have important meaning. If you’re looking for new tires, then you should be aware of them.

For car tires, the very first letter “P” indicates passenger tires. However, for trucks you will see a “LT”, which stands for light truck. The markings are part of the tire’s class, which correlates to the type of vehicle that you drive.

Immediately following the class marking, you will see a three-digit number that indicates the section width. The measurement is based in millimeters for the tread. That number correlates with the sidewall, which denotes an aspect ratio for the height of the sidewall and tread by a specific percentage. The wheel diameter indicates the exact tire size that will fit.

These markings are important in order to choose the correct tire. If you need additional help, please contact Valley Isle Motors Ltd at our Kahului location.
